Epigonus és un gènere de peixos pertanyent a la família dels epigònids.[1]
Descripció[modifica]
- Cos allargat i fusiforme.
- Vora posterior del preopercle no dentada.
- No tenen dents canines.
- 7-8 espines a la primera aleta dorsal i 1 espina i 9-10 radis a la segona.
- Aleta anal amb 2 espines i 9 radis.
- Escates grans i ctenoides, les quals recobreixen la part basal de l'aleta dorsal tova, l'anal i la caudal.
- La línia lateral s'estén molt sobre l'aleta caudal.[2]
Reproducció[modifica]
No presenten evidència d'incubació oral.[2]
Hàbitat[modifica]
Són peixos batibentònics que viuen al talús continental al voltant dels 100-1.200 m de fondària.[2]
