Kenny Rogers va néixer el 21 d'agost de 1938 a Houston, Texas. Aquest cantant de música country va créixer en un dels sectors més pobres de la ciutat.

Va formar part del grup de música The First Edition.

Ha influenciat molt en músics de country i soul, com Nat King Cole, Charlie Daniels, Arthur Alexander i Chuck Berry.

El 1977 va tenir molt d'èxit amb el single Lucille que va arrassar a les llistes d'èxit nord-americanes de country i de música pop. Un dels altres grans temes és Coward of the County. Amb Barbara Streisand va actuar a la pel·lícula Neix una estrella
