Parapercis schauinslandii és una espècie de peix de la família dels pingüipèdids i de l'ordre dels perciformes.[2]

Descripció[modifica]

  • Fa 18 cm de llargària màxima[3] i presenta 8-9 punts de vermell a marró fosc al dors, taques vermelles als flancs, la segona aleta dorsal amb una filera de punts negres al llarg de la meitat de l'aleta i dues franges estretes de color vermell brillant a la base de les aletes pectorals.[4][5]
  • 5 espines i 21-22 radis tous a l'aleta dorsal i 1 espina i 17-18 radis tous a l'anal.[6]

Alimentació[modifica]

Els adults es nodreixen de zooplàncton.[3]

Hàbitat i distribució geogràfica[modifica]

És un peix marí, bentònic,[7] associat als esculls (entre 9 i 50 m de fondària)[8] i de clima tropical, el qual viu a la conca Indo-Pacífica: des de l'Àfrica Oriental (Kenya[9] i les illes Seychelles)[10] i Sud-àfrica[11][12] fins a Pitcairn[13][4] (llevat de la península Aràbiga, la costa meridional d'Àsia i l'illa de Pasqua), el Japó[14][15][16][17] i la Gran Barrera de Corall, incloent-hi la Samoa Nord-americana,[9] Austràlia[18][19] (com ara, Queensland, Austràlia Occidental,[20] l'illa Christmas[8] i les illes Cocos),[21] les illes Comores,[11] la Polinèsia Francesa,[22] Guam,[23] les illes Hawaii,[24][7] Indonèsia,[3][25][26] Kiribati, les illes Maldives,[27] les illes Marqueses,[22][28] Nova Caledònia,[29][30][13][31] la república de Palau,[23] Papua Nova Guinea,[32] les illes Filipines,[9][33] Taiwan[34] i Tonga.[35][22][36][37][38][39][40][41][1][6][42]

Observacions[modifica]

És inofensiu per als humans.[6]
