Descripció

Relief sculpture on an arch adjacent to the Castel Nuovo, Naples. Royal coat of arms of King w:Frederick of Naples (1452-1504), sometimes called Frederick IV or Frederick of Aragon, the last king of Naples from the Neapolitan branch of the House of Trastámara, ruling from 1496 to 1501. He was the second son of King w:Ferdinand I of Naples. Inscribed in Latin: FEDERICUS DIVI FERD(INANDI) F(ILIUS) ARAG(ONAE) REX SICIL(IAE) ("Frederick son of the divine Ferdinand, King of Aragon (&) of Sicily").

Text from www.gazette-drouot.com[1]: "By assuming the feat of the burning book of accounts with the motto RECEDANT VETERA (\"vanish the ancient issues"), taken from the Bible's \"First Book of Kings," Frederick III wanted to allude to his decision to cancel debts to the Crown, to give a sign to the rebellious barons of his willingness to forgive their deeds and an invitation to forget old quarrels".
