Descripció
English: TDK tape head cleaner cassette "HCL-11" made of clear hard plastic. The plastic is birefringent and demonstrates internal stress as coloured patterns (photoelasticity) when photographed using cross polarisation. The polarising light source (an LCD monitor) has been rotated such that the polarising filter on the lens is oppositely oriented and so cuts out all the direct light, leaving a black background.
Polski: Kaseta do czyszczenia głowic magnetofonowych wykonana z przezroczystego, twardego tworzywa sztucznego. Tworzywo jest materiałem dwójłomnym i dzięki zjawisku fotoelastyczności pokazuje naprężenia wewnętrzne w postaci kolorowych wzorów, gdy jest fotografowane z użyciem polaryzacji krzyżowej (obiekt umieszcza się między dwoma polaryzatorami odpowiednio ustawionymi względem siebie). Tutaj źródło światła spolaryzowanego (monitor LCD) zostało obrócone w ten sposób, że filtr polaryzacyjny na obiektywie jest zorientowany w przeciwnym kierunku i odcina całe padjące na niego światło pozostawiając czarne tło.

El plástico es birrefringente y muestra tensión interna como patrones coloreados (fotoelasticidad) cuando se fotografía utilizando polarización cruzada. La fuente de luz polarizadora (un monitor LCD) se ha girado de tal forma que el filtro de polarización de la lente está orientado de manera opuesta, por lo que corta toda la luz directa, produciendo un fondo negro.
