Acanthocobitis és un gènere de peixos de la família dels balitòrids i de l'ordre dels cipriniformes.[1] Totes les seues espècies apareixen a la Llista Vermella de la UICN[2]

Es troba a Àsia: des de la conca del riu Indus al Pakistan[3][4][5] fins a la del Mae Khlong a Tailàndia,[6][7] incloent-hi l'Índia (com ara, Manipur, Maharashtra, Karnataka i els Ghats Occidentals),[8][9][10][11][12][13] Sri Lanka (des del riu Kelani fins al riu Nilwala),[14] Bangladesh,[15] Birmània, el Nepal,[16][17][18][19][20] la Xina (Yunnan) i els rius Ganges, Chindwin, Irauadi, Brahmaputra, Sitang i Salween.[21][22][23][24][25]
