Acanthurus thompsoni és una espècie de peix pertanyent a la família dels acantúrids.[1]

Descripció[modifica]

  • Pot arribar a fer 27 cm de llargària màxima.
  • 9 espines i 23-26 radis tous a l'aleta dorsal i 3 espines i 23-26 radis tous a l'anal.
  • El cos és de color marró o marró fosc. L'aleta caudal és pàl·lida (blanca com la neu en els exemplars vius).[2]

Alimentació[modifica]

Menja zooplàncton, ous de peixos i crustacis.[3]

Hàbitat[modifica]

És un peix marí i d'aigua salabrosa, associat als esculls[4] i de clima tropical (24 °C-27 °C; 23°N-29°S, 32°E-147°W) que viu entre 4 i 119 m de fondària (normalment, entre 5 i 70).[2][5][6]

Distribució geogràfica[modifica]

Es troba des de l'Àfrica Oriental[7][8][9][10] (incloent-hi les Illes Mascarenyes) fins a les illes Hawaii,[11] les illes Marqueses, el sud del Japó[12] i l'illa Rapa.[2][13][14][15][16][17][18][19][20][21][22][23][24][25][26][27][28][29][30][31][32][33][34][35][36][37][38][39][40][41][42][43][44][45][46][47][48]

Costums[modifica]

És bentopelàgic en fons coral·lins i sorrencs.[49]

Observacions[modifica]

És inofensiu per als humans.[2]
