Botia és un gènere de peixos de la família dels cobítids i de l'ordre dels cipriniformes.[3]

Alimentació[modifica]

Són principalment carnívors.[4]

Distribució geogràfica[modifica]

Es troba a Àsia: el Pakistan,[5][6][7] l'Índia (com ara, els Ghats Occidentals,[8][9][10][11][12][13] Karnataka,[14][15] Arunachal Pradesh,[16][17] Assam, Sikkim, Bengala Occidental, Manipur, Meghalaya, Nagaland,[18] Tripura, Bihar, Rajasthan, i Maharashtra),[19][20][21][22][23][24][25][26] Bhutan,[27][28] el Nepal,[29][30][31][32] Bangladesh,[33][34][35] Birmània,[36] Laos,[37] Tailàndia[38] i la Xina (Yunnan),[39][40] incloent-hi les conques dels rius Brahmaputra, Indus,[41] Salween, Kabul, Irauadi, Mekong[37] i Tenasserim.[42][43][44][45][46][47][48][49][50]

Espècies[modifica]

Estat de conservació[modifica]

Botia almorhae, Botia dario, Botia histrionica, Botia kubotai, Botia rostrata, Botia striata i Botia udomritthiruji apareixen a la Llista Vermella de la UICN a causa de les amenaces que els representa la desforestació, la sedimentació, la contaminació de l'aigua, la pesca destructiva mitjançant verins i electrocució, les activitats mineres i el comerç internacional de peixos d'aquari.[65][17]

Observacions[modifica]

Algunes de les seues espècies són populars en aquariofília (com ara, Botia almorhae, Botia dario, Botia histrionica, Botia kubotai, Botia lohachata, Botia rostrata, Botia striata i Botia udomritthiruji).[4][66][67][68][69][70][71][72][73][74][75][76]
