Craterocephalus stramineus és una espècie de peix pertanyent a la família dels aterínids[5] ednèmic d'Austràlia.[6][7][8][9] Pot arribar a fer 6,5 cm de llargària màxima (normalment, en fa 4).[6][10] Menja insectes i llurs larves, petits crustacis, caragols i algunes algues.[6] És un peix d'aigua dolça, bentopelàgic i de clima tropical (25 °C-30 °C).[6][11] És inofensiu per als humans i, tot i que és atractiu, delicat i difícil de mantindre en captivitat.[6][10]
