Descripció A Japanese Mitsubishi A6M2 Model 21 ("Zero") launches from the carrier Shōkaku during the Battle of the Santa Cruz Islands on 26 October 1942, while deck crewmen cheer on the pilot, Lieutenant Hideki Shingō, the Fighter Group leader. The three horizontal stripes on the tail indicate that the aircraft is flown by hikōtaichō. The single vertical white stripe around the rear end of fuselage is Shōkaku identifier.
