Deutsch: Rudolph, Gegenkaiser Heinrich IV. verliert im Treffen den Arm. Radierung von Bernhard Rode 1781. „Rudolph Herzog von Schwaben, wurde an Heinrich des 4. Stelle zum deutschen König gewählt; als er aber in einer Schlacht gegen denselben tödlich verwundet und ihm die rechte Hand abgehauen wurde, sagte er kurz von seinem Ende beim Anblick derselben zu den anwesenden Bischöfen 'das ist die Hand womit ich Heinrichen meinem Herrn Treue geschworen habe. Ihr die ihr mich auf seinen Thron gesetzt habt, möget nun zusehen ob ihr mich auf den rechten Weg geführet habt.' “ Katalog der Akademie-Ausstellung 1788: 1. "Rudolph, Duke of Swabia, was elected German king in place of Henry IV; but when he was mortally wounded in a battle against Henry and his right hand was chopped off, the sight of it prompted him to say shortly before his demise to the assembled bishops, 'That is the hand with which I swore fealty to my lord Henry. You who have placed me on his throne should now ponder whether in doing so you led me on the right path.'
