Leptoclinus maculatus és una espècie de peix de la família dels estiquèids i l'única del gènere Leptoclinus.[7]

Morfologia[modifica]

Fa 20 cm de llargària màxima i és de color groc grisós amb taques irregulars i fosques. 57-60 espines i cap radi tou a l'aleta dorsal. 1-2 espines i 34-36 radis tous a l'aleta anal. Aleta caudal arrodonida.[8][9][10]

Ecologia[modifica]

És un peix marí, demersal (entre 2 i 607 m de fondària,[11] normalment fins als 170)[12] i de clima polar (79°N-43°N), el qual és cosmopolita des de l'Àrtic[13] fins a latituds temperades: els fons sorrencs,[14] fangosos i de grava des de les costes àrtiques d'Alaska fins al mar d'Okhotsk;[15][16][17] el nord del mar del Japó;[18] l'illa d'Unalaska (illes Aleutianes);[19][20][21] la Colúmbia Britànica (Canadà) i Puget Sound (estat de Washington, Estats Units);[22] l'Atlàntic nord (des de l'Àrtic fins als territoris del Nord-oest, Nunavut, el Quebec[23] i la península del Labrador (Canadà)[24][25][26] i el golf de Maine,[27][28][29][30][31][32][33][34] i al llarg d'Escandinàvia des de Skagerrak[35] fins a Finnmark -Noruega-, Múrmansk, la mar Blanca,[36] Islàndia[37] i Groenlàndia).[38][39][40][41][42][43][44][45][46][47][5][10][48][49][50] Les poblacions del Pacífic són, de vegades, catalogades com una subespècie (Leptoclinus maculatus diaphanocarus).[12] Menja poliquets i crustacis.[51]

És depredat pel lluç europeu (Merluccius merluccius), l'halibut negre (Reinhardtius hippoglossoides),[52][53] Raja radiata;[54] a Alaska per Gadus macrocephalus, el peix carboner d'Alaska (Theragra chalcogramma) i Reinhardtius stomias; a les illes Kurils per Atheresthes evermanni;[53] i a Noruega per Hippoglossoides platessoides.[55][56] És inofensiu per als humans.[10]
