Els tetrarògids (Tetrarogidae) són una família de peixos marins de l'ordre dels escorpeniformes.[1][2]

Etimologia[modifica]

Del grec tetra (quatre) i rogos (arrugat).[3]

Descripció[modifica]

Poden arribar als 81 cm de llargària, encara que la majoria de les espècies no depassen els 15.[4] Cos comprimit. Cap normalment amb crestes i espines. Dues espines operculars divergents. Membrana branquial sense contacte amb l'istme.[5]

Alimentació[modifica]

Es nodreixen de crustacis i peixos.[5]

Hàbitat i distribució geogràfica[modifica]

Són principalment marins (encara que Notesthes robusta, de l'est d'Austràlia, és sobretot d'aigua dolça) i bentònics, els quals viuen als estuaris i costes de la conca Indo-Pacífica,[5][6] el sud d'Àfrica i l'Atlàntic sud-oriental, incloent-hi Sud-àfrica,[7][8] la Xina,[6][9] el mar de la Xina Meridional,[10][11] el Vietnam,[6][12] les illes Filipines,[6][13] Tailàndia,[6][14] el golf de Tailàndia,[15][16] Singapur,[6][17][18] Indonèsia,[19][20] el nord-oest d'Austràlia[21][22][23][24][25][26][19] (el Territori del Nord,[27][28] Queensland[27] i Austràlia Occidental),[29][30] el mar de Banda,[19] el mar d'Arafura[31] i la Gran Barrera de Corall.[26][32][33][4]

Estat de conservació[modifica]

Centropogon latifrons, Ocosia possi, Paracentropogon vespa, Tetraroge barbata i Tetraroge niger en són les úniques espècies que apareixen a la Llista Vermella de la UICN[70] a causa de la degradació de llurs hàbitats en algunes zones costaneres.[71]

Observacions[modifica]

Són peixos força verinosos[5] i les ferides causades per llurs espines poden ésser extremadament doloroses.[4]
