Plantilla:Infobox motorcycle rider Rupert Hollaus (4/9/1931 – 11/9/1954) was an Austrian Grand Prix motorcycle road racer who competed for the NSU factory racing team.

[2]

He is the only Austrian to win a road racing World Championship, and the first racer to do so posthumously.

Motorcycle racing career[modifica]

Hollaus was born in Traisen, Austria. He began his Grand Prix racing career in the 1953 season. In the 1954 season, he dominated the 125cc class by winning the first four Grands Prix. His victory at the 1954 Isle of Man TT was notable because he was one of only seven riders to have won an Isle of Man TT race in their first attempt.

[3]

Due to the circuit's 37.7 mile length, it usually takes competitors two or three attempts before they learn its nuances.

Later that same year, Hollaus was killed during practice for the Italian Grand Prix at Monza.

[4]

Hollaus became the first posthumous World Champion in 1954, in the 125cc class and was runner up to his NSU teammate, Werner Haas, in the 250cc class.

[2][5]

On 23/2/1955 he was elected as "Austrian Sportspersonality of the year 1954" (posthum).

Paolo Pileri (31/7/1944 – 12/2/2007) was an Italian professional motorcycle racer and racing team manager. He competed in the Grand Prix road racing world championships from 1973 to 1979.

[6]

Pileri is notable for winning the FIM 125cc world championship in 1975.

Pileri was born in Terni, Italy where he grew up idolizing Italian motorcycling world champion Libero Liberati. He initially competed in motocross racing before switching to road racing in 1971.

[7]

Pileri's impressive third place in the 1973 250cc Belgian Grand Prix earned him an invitation to join the Morbidelli factory racing team.

He won his first Grand Prix race for Morbidelli at the 1975 125cc Spanish Grand Prix then went on to win the next six races to clinch the 125cc world championship.

[6]

Later on his career, he took one 250cc victory in the 1978 250cc Belgian Grand Prix.

[8]

He retired after the 1979 season at the age of 35.

[7]

In a seven-year Grand Prix racing career, Pileri won 8 races and took 20 podium finishes from 33 starts.

[6]

Pileri became a motorcycle racing team manager after retiring from competition where he successfully guided Loris Capirossi to successive 125cc world championships in 1990 and 1991.

[7]

He is credited with giving Valentino Rossi his first opportunity to compete when he joined Pileri's team at the age of 14.

[7]

Pileri died in Terni on/2/12, 2007 at the age of 63.

Gramigni moved up to the 250cc class in next season, first with the Gilera team before switching back to Aprilia. It was a disappointing season, as he scored only 2 points. He competed two more seasons in the 250 class, 1994 with the Aprilia, and in 1995 with Honda. After a two-year sabbatical, he entered one race in the 500cc class at the 1997 Malaysian Grand Prix before ending his Grand Prix career.

He turned his attention to the Superbike World Championship from 1998 to 2001 and then in 2003 and 2005.
