In Puyol, Y is pronounced like an I, not a J. In catalan we have another very common name Pujol that means small hill and with the pronountiation wrote just above. Puyol seems to be a derivation of this name, but it is pronounced without J. However, spanish journalist use to pronounce the name uncorrectly (with J).--Jordi ✉ 14:05, 10 febr 2007 (CET)

Wait, I don't really get it. Let's use the English aphabet (but if you know the IPA, it's OK, I know it too). Should it be: poo-yol, poo-zhol (as in the Russian pronunciation of Zhukov) or similar, or poo-something else-ol? Because when we talk about J, I don't know, if we're talking about the English J (as in John), the Spanish J (Juan), or the Catalan J (which I don't know how should be pronounced).

I don't know the IPA, but J in catalan sounds more like John, and not like Juan. However, Puyol is not pronouced with any kind of J, except by some spanish-speakers who make a confusion with the name of a former President of Catalonia Jordi Pujol.
