Birthday of Hokusai[modifica]
The birthday as given by Gabirele Fahr-Becker with „12 d'octubre de 1760“ is wrong. All other references give the birthday with „October 31, 1760“; so Fahr-Becker made a mistake. All over all the given date „October 31, 1760“ is quite questionable. It derives from Iijima Kyoshins „Biography of Katsushika Hokusai“, 1893, who mentioned that Hokusai gave his birhday together with his signature on a painting of Daikoku. No one exexpt Kyoshin ever saw this scroll and there is no other proof for this date. A „normal“ Japanese civilian of the Edo time didn’t know his exact day of birth, it has not been recorded anywhere. So it’s indeed unprobably that the birthday given by Kyoshin is truth.
