This article is very confused. There are three common definitions for "Low German"/"baix alemany": The first one is "any continental West Germanic language variant that is not Frisian and has not taken part in the second Germanic sound shift". The second is "any language variant that shares a set of features that are derived from the ancient language of the Saxons". The third is the same as the second, but excluding any variants that lie in the Netherlands. As one and three involve non-linguistic exclusion terms, the only real linguistic definition is the second one.

If we want to compare it with Catalan: The first definition can be compared to lumping together Catalan and Occitan. The second can be compared to Catalan. The third can be compared to Catalan, but excluding the language of the parts of Catalonia that are in France.

In the current state the article does not help the reader much. One of the definitions should be chosen and the article should be extended. --::Slomox:: >< 13:23, 28 ago 2009 (CEST)[respon]
