Poecile és un gènere d'ocells passeriformes de la família dels pàrids (Paridae).[1][2] Agrupa espècies que es troben disperses per Amèrica del Nord, Europa i Àsia; les espècies nord-americanes allà són conegudes com a chickadee. En el passat, la majoria d'autoritats van mantenir Poecile com un subgènere dins del gènere Parus, però el tractament com a gènere diferent, iniciat per l'American Ornithologists Union, ara és àmpliament acceptat.[3] Això està avalat per l'anàlisi de la seqüència del citocrom b de l'ADNmt.[4]
Taxonomia
[modifica]El gènere Poecile va ser introduït pel naturalista alemany Johann Jakob Kaup l'any 1829.[5] Posteriorment, l'any 1942 el zoòleg anglès George Robert Gray va ser designar com a espècie tipus la mallerenga d'aigua (Poecile palustris).[6][7]
El nom Poecile prové del grec antic poikilos que significa acolorit. La paraula relacionada poikilidos denotava un ocell petit no identificat.[8] Tradicionalment s'ha tractat com a femení (donant terminacions de nom com ara cincta); Tanmateix, això no va ser especificat per l'autor original del gènere, Johann Jakob Kaup, i segons l'ICZN el nom del gènere s'ha de tractar per defecte com a masculí, donant terminacions de nom com ara cinctus.[3]
L'any 2020[9] es va revisar la seqüència de Poecile seguint el treball de Tritsch et al. (2017):[10]

Segons la Classificació del Congrés Ornitològic Internacional (versió 15.1, 2025) aquest gènere està format per quinze espècies:[11]

- Poecile lugubris - mallerenga lúgubre.
- Poecile cinctus - mallerenga de Lapònia.
- Poecile rufescens - mallerenga dorsibruna.
- Poecile hudsonicus - mallerenga boreal.
- Poecile sclateri - mallerenga de Mèxic.
- Poecile carolinensis - mallerenga de Carolina.
- Poecile atricapillus - mallerenga capnegra americana.
- Poecile gambeli - mallerenga muntanyenca.
- Poecile davidi - mallerenga del pare David.
- Poecile hypermelaenus - mallerenga de pitet.
- Poecile palustris - mallerenga d'aigua.
- Poecile weigoldicus - mallerenga de Sichuan.
- Poecile hyrcanus - mallerenga del Caspi.
- Poecile montanus - mallerenga capnegra europea.
