Arcynopteryx compacta és una espècie d'insecte plecòpter pertanyent a la família (biologia)|família dels perlòdids^[6] present a Europa (Àustria, Bulgària, Txèquia, Eslovàquia, Finlàndia, França, Macedònia del Nord, Alemanya, Noruega,^[7] Polònia, Romania, Rússia -incloent-hi Sibèria,^[8] Kamtxatka i l'Extrem Orient Rus-, l'Estat espanyol -incloent-hi Catalunya)^[9]-,^[10]^[11]^[12]^[13] Suècia, Ucraïna i els territoris de l'antiga Iugoslàvia, incloent-hi els Pirineus^[14] el Canadà (Nunavut, el Yukon,^[15]^[16] Alberta, la Colúmbia Britànica, Saskatchewan^[17] i els Territoris del Nord-oest) i els Estats Units (Alaska,^[18] Colorado,^[19] Maine, Michigan,^[20] Montana,^[21]^[22]^[23]^[24] Nou Hampshire, estat de Nova York|Nova York i Wyoming,^[25] incloent-hi els llacs llac Michigan|Michigan,^[26] llac Huron|Huron^[27] i llac Superior|Superior)^[28]^[4]^[29]^[30]^[31]^[32]^[33]^[34]^[35]^[36]^[37] El mascle adult fa 10,5-16,5 mm de llargària corporal i la femella entre 12 i 21.^[14]

En el seu estadi immadur és aquàtic i viu a l'aigua dolça, mentre que com a adult és terrestre i volador.^[34]
