Psychoda cinerea és una espècie de dípter pertanyent a la família dels psicòdids de distribució cosmopolita: Europa les illes Britàniques[5][6][7][8] -com ara, Essex[9]-, Espanya -incloent-hi Catalunya-,[10][11] Bèlgica, els Països Baixos,[12] França,[13][14] Alemanya, Dinamarca, Noruega,[15] Suïssa, Itàlia, Àustria, Txèquia,[16] Eslovàquia, Polònia, Hongria, Romania, Bulgària, Grècia i el territori de l'antiga República Federal Socialista de Iugoslàvia), Amèrica,[17][18][19][20][21] les illes Açores,[22] les illes Bermudes,[23] Sud-àfrica, Israel[24] i Austràlia (Austràlia Meridional).[25][26][27][28][29][30][31][3][32][33][34][35] És de color groguenc pàl·lid amb antena (biologia)|antenes de 16 artells (els 3 darrers de la mateixa mida).[36][37] Les larves acostumen a trobar-se en llocs bruts, incloent-hi les aigües residuals de filtres i drenatges domèstics.[25] Hi ha casos documentats de miasi gastrointestinal en humans produïts per aquesta espècie al Pakistan.[38]
