The WMF Language team would like to enable the Section translation tool in Catalan Wikipedia. Our team will love you to read about the tool and test it so you can ask us any questions and give us your feedback about our enabling it in your Wikipedia.
Below is background information about Content and Section translation and why we want to enable the Section translation tool in your Wikipedia.
Background information
Content Translation has been a successful tool for multilingual editors to translate content from one language to another. More than one million articles have been created across all languages since the tool was released in 2015, and it has been used to translate more than sixty-two thousand articles in your Wikipedia.
The Wikimedia Foundation Language team has improved the translation experience further with the Section Translation tool, which the early version was enabled in the Bengali Wikipedia in February 2021. Through Bengali and other communities' feedback, we have improved it, deployed it in other Wikipedias, and it is ready to be enabled in Catalan Wikipedia.
Section Translation extends the capabilities of Content Translation; it is developed to support mobile devices and the tool will:
- Guide you to translate one section at a time to expand existing articles or create new ones.
- Make it easy to transfer knowledge across languages anytime from your mobile device.
Catalan Wikipedia seems an ideal Wiki to enjoy this new tool since the Content Translation tool is frequently used in this Wikipedia.
We plan to enable the tool in the coming weeks if there are no objections from your community. After it is enabled, we'll monitor the content created with it so we can evaluate the outcome. In any case, feel free to ask us questions as a reply to this message.
Please try the tool
Before the enablement, you can try the current implementation of the tool in our testing instance, and once it is enabled on Catalan Wikipedia, you'll have access to the tool from this link: https://ca.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:ContentTranslation with your mobile device, where you can use it to translate articles.

Section Translation tool enabled in Catalan Wikipedia
Greetings!
The WMF Language team is pleased to let you know that the Section Translation tool is now enabled in your wiki. It means you can translate content one section at a time using your mobile devices with ease.
Now you can also start translating an article on your mobile device right when you notice it is missing in Catalan. From a Wikipedia article in any language, switch languages and search for català. If the article does not exist, an option to translate it will appear, as shown in the image below.
Content created with the tool will be marked with the “sectiontranslation” tag for the community to review. We’ll monitor the content created, but we are very interested in hearing about your experience using the tool and reviewing the content created with it.
So, enjoy the tool and provide feedback on improving it.
