La Lliga de Defensa anglesa (EDL) és un moviment de protesta de carrer ultradretà[1][2][3][4][5] que s'adressa per damunt de tot a una oposició a un estès de Islamism i Sharia en el Regne Unit.[6][7][8][9][10][11] L'EDL ha estat descrit com Islamophobic.[2][12] El grup ha fet front a confrontations amb diversos grups, incloent Uneix En contra Feixisme (UAF).[13] Des d'octubre 2013 els  co-fundadors, Tommy Robinson i Kevin Carroll, van deixar el grup, amb Robinson que te preocupacions sobre els "perills del extremisme ultradretà".[14] Va ser reemplaçat tan dirigent per Tim Ablitt.[15]

Formació i objectius[modifica]

L'EDL va ser originat d'un grup conegut com el "United Peoples of Luton" (UPL). L'UPL va ser formada com a resposta a una manifestació organitzada per l'extremista oragnització Islamista, Al-Muhajiroun, contra la guerra d'Afganistàn.
