És un peix d'aigua dolça, de clima tropical i bentopelàgic.[4]
Distribució geogràfica[modifica]
Es troba a Sud-amèrica: conques dels rius Amazones i Orinoco, i rius de les Guaianes.[4][6][7][8][9][10]

És important com a aliment per als humans a nivell local.[4]
