Chris Riddell (Ciutat del Cap, 13 d'abril de 1962) és un il·lustrador britànic i autor de llibres infantils i caricatures polítiques per a The Observer. Ha guanyat tres cops la Kate Greenaway Medal (2001, 2004, 2016), el premi dels llibreters britànics per al millor llibre infantil il·lustrat i també n'ha estat dos cops finalista. És l'únic autor que l'ha guanyat tres cops. El 2015 fou nomenat Children's Laureate.

Vida

Chris Riddell nasqué a Sud-àfrica, on el seu pare exercia de vicari anglicà, progressista i oposat a l'apartheid. La família retornà a Anglaterra quan Riddell només tenia un any i s'instal·là a Brixton. Des de jove va mostrar talent artístic; de petit, admirava John Tenniel (1820-1914), l'il·lustrador d'Alícia en terra de meravelles. Va estudiar il·lustració a la Brighton Polytechnic, on tingué com a professor Raymond Briggs.

A part d'il·lustrar i escriure ell mateix llibres, va treballar com a il·lustrador a The Economist a partir dels 80 i al diari The Observer, des de 1995. Hi publica caricatures polítiques.
