Misgurnus anguillicaudatus és una espècie de peix de la família dels cobítids i de l'ordre dels cipriniformes.[4] Els mascles poden assolir 28 cm de llargària total.[5][6] Menja cucs, crustacis petits, insectes, larves d'insectes i d'altres organismes aquàtics petits.[7] Viu als rius, llacs, estanys, pantans i arrossars[8] de zones de clima subtropical.[9][10] Es troba a l'àrea compresa entre Birmània, el nord-est d'Àsia i la Xina central.[5][11][12] Ha estat introduït en altres països(com ara, Hawaii)[13][14][15][16][17][18][19][20][21] i, si més no, en un cas hi ha esdevingut una espècie invasiva.[5][22]

Exemplars a la venda en un supermercat

És una espècie popular en aquariofília.[23] Tolera temperatures compreses entre 2 i 30 °C, i pot respirar aire per tal de complementar les seues necessitats respiratòries en aigües poc oxigenades.[5] El fet d'ésser emprat pels pescadors com a esquer viu ha contribuït a la seua propagació fora del seu hàbitat original.[24]
