Pholidichthys és un gènere de peixos marins i l'únic de la família dels folidíctids (Pholidichthyidae).[1]

Etimologia[modifica]

Pholidichthys prové dels mots grecs pholis, -idos (escata) i ichthys (peix).[2]

Descripció[modifica]

Cos anguil·liforme. 1 nariu a cada costat del cap. Absència d'escates. Aletes pelvianes per sota o una mica abans de la base de les pectorals. 2-3 radis tous i 1 espina feble a les aletes pelvianes. 70-79 radis tous a l'aleta dorsal i 55-62 a l'anal. 15 radis a les pectorals. L'aleta caudal conflueix amb les aletes dorsal i anal. Ossos faringis inferiors fosos en un de sol. 71-79 vèrtebres.[3]

Distribució geogràfica[modifica]

Es troba al Pacífic:[4][5] des d'Austràlia[6][7][8][9][10][11] (el Territori del Nord i Austràlia Occidental)[12][13] i l'extrem sud-oest de les illes Filipines[14] (el mar de Sulu[15][16] i les illes Calamianes)[17][18] fins a les illes Salomó,[19][20] incloent-hi Malàisia,[21][19][22] Indonèsia,[23][24][25][26] Papua Nova Guinea[27][28] (incloent-hi les badies de Milne[29] i de Kimbe),[30] Nova Caledònia,[6][31] el mar de Cèlebes[16][15] i, possiblement també, el mar de la Xina Meridional.[32][33][34][35][36][3][37]

Observacions[modifica]

No formen part del comerç de peixos ornamentals.[3]
