Sardinella gibbosa és una espècie de peix de la família dels clupeids i de l'ordre dels clupeïformes.

Morfologia[modifica]

Alimentació[modifica]

Menja fitoplàncton i zooplàncton (larves de crustacis i mol·luscs).[4][5][6]

Hàbitat[modifica]

És un peix marí, associat als esculls de corall i de clima tropical (41°N-25°S, 43°E-135°E) que es troba entre 10-70 m de fondària.[7]

Distribució geogràfica[modifica]

Es troba des del Golf Pèrsic,[8] l'Àfrica Oriental i Madagascar fins a Indonèsia,[9] Taiwan,[10][11] Corea, el Mar d'Arafura[12] i el nord d'Austràlia.[13][14][15][16][17][3]

Longevitat[modifica]

Pot viure fins als 7 anys.[18]

Costums[modifica]

Forma bancs a les aigües costaneres.[3]

Ús comercial[modifica]

Es comercialitza fresc, adobat amb sal, cuit o en forma de mandonguilles de peix.[3]
