Hyphessobrycon és un gènere de peixos de la família dels caràcids i de l'ordre dels caraciformes.[2]

En el moment de la fresa, escampen els ous i no protegeixen ni els ous ni els futurs alevins.[3]

Són generalment omnívors i es nodreixen fonamentalment de petits crustacis, insectes, anèl·lids i zooplàncton.[3]

Es troba a Amèrica: des del sud de Mèxic fins a l'Argentina.[3]

Moltes de les seues espècies són populars com a peixos d'aquari.[3]
