Filla d'Elsie (nascuda Doying), professora de piano i de Raymond Davy Hunt, vicepresident d'una companyia petroliera de Long Island, Harper Fuel Oil. Linda Hunt va anar a la prestigiosa Interlochen Arts Academy. Té una germana, Marcia.
