Malacosteus niger és una espècie de peix de la família dels estòmids i de l'ordre dels estomiformes.[2]

Hàbitat[modifica]
És un peix marí i d'aigües profundes que viu entre 500-3.886 m de fondària.[3][6]
Distribució geogràfica[modifica]
Es troba a tots els oceans entre 66°N i 30°S, incloent-hi l'Atlàntic,[7] les illes Açores,[8] les costes atlàntiques ibèriques[8] (desconegut a la Mediterrània),[3] el corrent de Canàries,[8] el corrent de Benguela,[9] el Carib,[10] el golf de Mèxic,[10] l'Índic,[9] el golf d'Aden,[9] la badia de Bengala,[9] el corrent de Kuroshio,[11] el Pacífic,[9] el mar de la Xina Meridional,[12] el mar de la Xina Oriental,[13] les illes Hawaii,[14] el corrent de Califòrnia,[9] el corrent de Humboldt,[15] el mar de Tasmània[9] i el mar de Bering.[16][17][3][18][19][20][21][22][23][24][25]
Observacions[modifica]
És inofensiu per als humans[3] i el seu índex de vulnerabilitat és de baix a moderat (29 de 100).[26]
