Argentina silus és una espècie de peix pertanyent a la família dels argentínids.[5]

Descripció [modifica]

Reproducció [modifica]

Té lloc entre l'abril i el juliol. Els ous i els juvenils són pelàgics a 400-500 m de fondària.[9][10]

Alimentació [modifica]

Menja invertebrats planctònics (incloent-hi eufausiacis, amfípodes -com ara, krill i Thermisto-, quetògnats, calamars i ctenòfors) i peixets.[6]

Depredadors [modifica]

És depredat pel congre (Conger conger) (a Irlanda)[11], Molva dipterygia, el lluç (Merluccius merluccius)[12], el peix espasa (Xiphias gladius)[13] i la foca de Grenlàndia (Phoca groenlandica) (a Noruega).[14]

Hàbitat [modifica]

És un peix marí, batidemersal i oceanòdrom[15] que viu entre 140 i 1.440 m de fondària (normalment, entre 150 i 550).[6][16]

Distribució geogràfica [modifica]

Es troba a l'Atlàntic: el Canadà, Dinamarca, les illes Fèroe, Grenlàndia, Islàndia, Irlanda, Noruega (incloent-hi Svalbard), Suècia, la Gran Bretanya i els Estats Units.[17][18][19][20][21][22][23][24][25][26][27][28][29][30][31][32][33][34][35][36][37][38][39][40][41][42][43][44][45]

Pot assolir els 35 anys d'edat.[46]

Ús comercial [modifica]
