La família dels caràngids (Carangidae) està constituïda per peixos pelàgics, osteïctis i de l'ordre dels perciformes.

Morfologia[modifica]

Pseudocaranx dentex
  • N'hi ha espècies que arriben a talles grosses.
  • De cos generalment comprimit (anàleg al dels escòmbrids) i recobert d'escates cicloides.
  • El preopercle és llis.
  • Tenen dues aletes dorsals: la primera té els radis espinosos i, de vegades, són lliures (també ocorre a l'anal).
  • L'aleta caudal és escotada.
  • La línia lateral no és recta, té unes plaques òssies i presenta una corba mitjana pronunciada.
  • Entre 24 i 27 vèrtebres.[2][3]

Alepes kleinii

Són bons nedadors i depredadors que ataquen a gran velocitat.

Hàbitat[modifica]

Són peixos oceànics o litorals propis de les aigües marines i salabroses tropicals i temperades.

Distribució geogràfica[modifica]

Són d'origen tropical i es troben distribuïts pels oceans Atlàntic, Pacífic i Índic.[1]

Costums[modifica]

Solen formar moles i realitzen migracions.

Pesca[modifica]

Algunes espècies tenen importància econòmica, ja que llur carn és saborosa.
